Stone Mountain Highland Games, Oct. 2012

#1
Hello to all the Nesbitt/Nisbet's (Nisbett's)!

It's time for those Stone Mountain, GA Highland Games again! Yeah! I do love these Games. The clans and bands are set up in the woods so it's cool and shady, the competitions are out in the sun with bleachers to sit on, and the bagpipe and drum sounds are everywhere! It's incredible!!

The Games begin Sat. 8:00 a.m. on Oct. 20, and continue through Sunday the 21st. at Stone Mountain Park, 1000 Robert E. Lee Blvd., Stone Mtn., GA. Go to their website for more info about tickets and the Games at www.smhg.org.

Speaking of bands and such, this is our 40th anniversary, and we are going all out in celebration. There will be 12 or more Clan Chiefs in attendance this year. Incredible as this might seem that is not all our special guests. They will be joined by several other distinguished guests as we recognize past successes and look toward our future.

The pageantry will be truly spectacular as more than 75 Scottish Clans and Societies will be present to parade past their chiefs, guests and crowd to the music of more than 25 pipe bands from around the US and featuring ALL four of our local pipe bands.

Music will be non-stop with something for every taste. This year we feature 3 performance stages offering everything from music with a contemporary flair to the traditional stains of a Scottish ballad or lively fiddle tune. We are very proud to feature the Irish folk group Stonewall from County Armagh, Ireland. They will be featured in a Friday afternoon recital, anchoring Stage II all weekend at the festival and offering a special set as we begin our Saturday Night Ceilidh. Joining them in our musical lineup will be the favorite Rathskelter, Gael Warning from North Carolina, the local favorites Keltic Kudzu, Squinting Patrick and Caledonia Swing. This is not all the musical entertainment to be offered and Marc Gunn and Colin Grant Adams bring their artistry to our stages as well. Jane MacMorran rounds out our lineup with some amazing Scottish fiddling.

Of course there will be the perennial favorite features: Scottish Athletics, Highland Dance, Scottish Country Dance and Solo Piping and Drumming. After all it would not be a Scottish Games without them. Falconry, Highland Cattle, Tartan Weaving and other Celtic flavored artisans will be there as well. SO MUCH TO DO! So, make sure you make your plans to attend now! :D
