There are other N/N events going on in our regions during this year besides the Highland Games. We have been gathering for a local picnic in the summer in Atlanta for a couple of years. Last year we held it in mid-June and are tentatively planning for the same time this year. We have been having around 15-20 N/N’s in the area attend, and we make it an all-day event where we can visit, eat, swim and play in the lake. It’s so much fun and we all feel very fortunate to be able to get to know each other better. So if you live in the Atlanta area and haven’t attended before, please contact Irene Petree by email: irenepetree@ibydeit.org for details.
In August in Smith County, TN, the Nesbit’s have been hosting a family reunion in Defeated Creek, TN, near Carthage off of I-40. It’s always the 3rd Sunday in August, and this year will be on Aug. 18th at 12:30 p.m. at the Carver Barn, right across from the Defeated Creek Campground and lake. For any Nesbit that believes or knows they are descended from Moses Nesbit from Iredell County, NC, these Nesbit’s in Smith County are directly related to him. My ggrandfather John Maxwell Nesbit is descended from that Moses, and he was the only Nesbit who settled in that county. There are over 100 of his descendants still living in that area.
If you don't know of any NN reunions in your area, search your local newspaper archives or visit the library and look for any that may have occured in the past. You might be able to revive one of them yourself, or just be able to connect with a family member that way at least. Be creative and think outside your usual ways to connect and you just might surprise yourself!
