Saturday, July 10, 2021

We are excited to announce that our 2021 Annual General Meeting (AGM) is scheduled for this November 5th through 7th, and you are all invited. Make plans to join us at the 50th Annual Charleston Scottish Games and Highland Gathering! We welcome all Nesbit's, Nisbet's, and all spellings to join us for a weekend of fun and family, catching up with some cousins and meeting new ones in beautiful and historic North Charleston, SC. Website is www.charlestonscottishgames.com.

The Charleston Scottish Games and Highland Gathering event is the 2nd oldest of its kind in the Southeast which began in 1971. The event is organized by the Scottish Society of Charleston and brings in over 8,000 guests every year. The event showcases the Scottish people who have settled there and have influenced so much of what the state has become.

The Games will be held at Riverfront Park, 1061 Everglades Avenue, North Charleston. Set along the Cooper River and bordered by Noisette Creek, you will be surrounded by grand old oak trees and historical homes once occupied by Naval officers who were stationed on the Charleston Naval Base. At the Games, there will be events of all kinds for everyone to enjoy, including traditional competitions and modern live music. Here's just a few things to experience: Athletic and Highland Dancing Competitions, Pipe Band Championship, Scottish Fiddling Competitions, Scottish Country Dancing, various Children's events, Border Collie Demonstrations, Live music by Albannach, and of course various food, drink, and Scottish themed product vendors.

Riverfront Park is also the home to the Greater Charleston Naval Base Memorial, erected in honor of the countless military personnel and civilians that served the United States and the Greater Charleston region while the Charleston Navy Base was operational. The Memorial is the only location in the United States that displays both the Lone Sailor and the Homecoming statues.

For Advance Tickets to the Games, go to: www.charlestonscottishgames.com/event-info. Tickets are $20 plus a $2.79 fee; parking is $10. Wear your Scottish attire to the Patrons Reception from 6:30–10 p.m. at Quarters K in the Park. Calling of the Clans is at 9 p.m. Tickets to the Reception are $95 and are also available on the website, along with Sponsorship packages.
